The War Prayer (by Samuel Clemens): Clemens wrote this piece in response to the Phillippine-American War of 1899-1902. It was rejected by his publisher and, despite recent characterization of the telegraph as the "Victorian Internet," Clemens was unable to publish it on his personal website.
